“Stove Stacking,” or more than one cookstove per household, is essential to our mission. Most homes in the world cooking with biomass use more than one flame. If only provided access to one fan-gasifying stove, each of these homes would still use stoves that emit deadly gases and particulate matter.

Fan Gasifying stoves are the only solid biomass buring stoves in the world with low enough emissions to significantly reduce death and disease from Household Air Pollution. There is ample scientific evidence demonstrating that all other Improved Cookstoves for solid biomass, such as Rocket Stoves, have little to no impact on health outcomes. Even a Fan Gasifying stove will provide no measurable health benefit if used alongside a traditional or other improved cookstove.

Because fan gasifying cookstoves are too expensive to sell outright, Supamoto Tanzania focuses on the fuel. The revenue generated from biomass fuel pellets empowers us to stack stoves, and frees us from dependence on the volatile carbon market. Best of all, it allows our customer base to include all socio-economic strata – from the poorest subsistence farmer to the wealthy urban elite.

Rural Customers bring biomass to Hubs

Rural Tanzanians already gather wood daily. With Supamoto Tanzania, these customers collect half as much. This means spending half as much time searching for wood. The crowdsourcing of raw biomass provides a low-cost feedstock while engaging the poorest households as the foundation of our business.

In exchange, Rural Customers receive all the pellets they need

Reasonable exchange rates for biomass-to-pellets make it easy to meet all cooking needs, and even be able to stock up for the rainy season or emergencies

It’s used as feedstock for Fuel Pellets

No split wood or agricultural residues are accepted, ensuring that neither trees nor soil fertility are negatively affected to make pellets.

And we have plenty extra to sell to our Urban Customers

The Fuel+Stove System’s efficiency enables one rural household to bring enough biomass to supply four urban households. These Urban Customers purchase pellets at a pricepoint comparable to or below the cost of cooking with charcoal.
